Does Montessori School of Waukesha (MSOW) offer 4K?

The School Districts of Waukesha (SDW) and Kettle Moraine (KMSD) have contracted with local schools and day-cares to provide 4K educational services. MSOW is one of those “Community Partners” for both districts. Students are registered and enrolled as students in the districts, but the education is provided at MSOW by MSOW faculty. The 4K students are placed in one of the five existing MSOW Children’s House classrooms; each is comprised of 3, 4 and 5 year olds. Every classroom in the building is a multi-age classroom, so there is no separate “4K” classroom. As a result, no child is limited to a “4K” curriculum. Children will be introduced to new work as they master the pre-requisite skills, regardless of chronological age.

Does MSOW use the district curriculum?

All students will be instructed within a Montessori environment utilizing the Montessori curriculum. Each Children’s House classroom has a Department of Public Instruction licensed teacher (as required by public school districts) and a Montessori certified teacher (as required by MSOW Board and administration.) The Montessori curriculum at a minimum meets 4K state or district standards, but most often exceeds them. All of the sites use the same Progress Report at the end of each semester, but the activities and method of teaching will vary between sites.

How do I get my child registered for 4K?

Starting in February each year, parents of 4 year olds in the district should receive a registration packet in the mail. If your 4 year old is your oldest child, it is likely that you are not in the district database. Please contact Michelle Krauska at MSW at 262-547-2545 for a packet or you can also download one from either of the district websites.

For the 2016/2017 school year, currently enrolled students (students enrolled at MSOW for the 2015/2016 school year who will be 4 years old by September 1, 2016) will be Pre-registered, subject to MSOW’s receipt of registration materials. Siblings of former 4K students will also be Pre-Registered in any remaining openings subject to MSOW’s receipt of registration materials.

Check the registration packet or SDW website for complete information. A reminder that you must bring all completed forms, a birth certificate or passport for your child to verify date of birth, a copy of a parent driver’s license or ID and a copy of a utility bill or lease agreement to verify residence.

Registration for KMSD 4K occurs at the district office in Wales.

What are the hours of the 4K program at MSW?

MSOW offers a morning program . The morning program is from 8:15 to 11:45.  Before & After care is available from 7 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. for a separate fee. The 4K program is four days per week, Monday through Thursday, with Fridays available for purchase. Both districts also establish “Non-4K Days” which are typically early release days in the district schools. For the 16/17 school year there are 2 of these days in the SDW and 4 in KMSD. Since Children’s Houses are open for the 3 and 5 year olds, you may request that your child attend these days and you will be billed accordingly. Busing is not provided for 4K, so parents must provide transportation for the students.
