When children demonstrate readiness, are toilet-trained and using the restroom independently, they are ready to expand their access of the prepared classroom in Children’s House. For children to gain maximum effectiveness and consistency, they must attend five mornings per week to allow the daily lessons to build on each other.

Curriculum
“Parents should understand that a Montessori Children’s House is neither a baby-sitting service nor a play school that prepares a child for traditional kindergarten.  Rather it is a unique cycle of learning designed to take advantage of the child’s sensitive years between three and six, when he can absorb information from an enriched environment.  A child who acquires the basic skills of reading and arithmetic in this natural way has the advantage of beginning his education without drudgery, boredom, or discouragement.  By pursuing his individual interest in a Montessori classroom, he gains an early enthusiasm for learning, which is key to his becoming a truly educated person.”  (From A Parent’s Guide to the Montessori Classroom by Aline Wolf)

When visiting a Montessori Children’s House Classroom the first thing you will notice is that everything is orderly, child-sized and at the height appropriate for children.  This is truly a children’s environment, where they can choose work while actively learning to be independent.  “This is a place that they can manage and, therefore, they feel safe.  This sense of security is not just the result of having a loving teacher upon whom they can depend; it is the natural outcome of the children being in a place where they can trust their own powers.”  (From Montessori Today by Paula Polk Lillard)

Montessori Children’s House classrooms all over the world are prepared with essentially the same core Montessori materials.  There are five areas of the classroom arranged clock-wise around the perimeter of the room.  As you enter the room you will step into the practical life area, to your left will be sensorial, math, language and finally cultural.  Each of these areas is described in greater detail under Overview.

Observations
