Paraprofessional Positions

Join Our Montessori Community

The Montessori School of Waukesha is seeking caring, dependable, and engaged Paraprofessionals to join our growing team. Whether you have experience in education, childcare, coaching, summer camps, or youth programs, we are looking for individuals who genuinely enjoy working with children and want to become an important part of a classroom community.

No Montessori experience is required. We provide training and support for candidates who are eager to learn.

Founded in 1964, Montessori School of Waukesha is the first and only American Montessori Society (AMS) accredited school in Wisconsin. We serve approximately 370 students from Toddler through Middle School in a collaborative, mission-driven learning environment where faculty, students, and families work together to help children become confident, independent, and compassionate learners.

About the Position

Paraprofessionals are assigned to one classroom community and remain with that class throughout the school day, building meaningful relationships with students and partnering closely with the lead teacher. This role is much more than classroom assistance: it is an opportunity to help create a calm, joyful, and respectful environment where children can thrive.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the lead teacher in maintaining a prepared Montessori environment.
  • Building positive relationships with students while modeling kindness, respect, and consistency.
  • Supervising children during classroom activities, outdoor play, transitions, lunch, arrival, and dismissal.
  • Encouraging children to solve problems, develop independence, and care for their environment.
  • Assisting with classroom preparation, organization, material making, copying, laminating, light cleaning, and laundry.
  • Supporting daily routines appropriate to the age level, including care routines for younger children when applicable.
  • Contributing to a classroom culture where every child feels safe, respected, and capable.

Our strongest paraprofessionals are people who:

  • Genuinely enjoy being with children and respect their developmental journey.
  • Bring a calm, patient, and emotionally steady presence to the classroom.
  • Build warm relationships while maintaining clear and consistent expectations.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and colleagues as true partners.
  • Take initiative and notice what needs to be done without waiting to be asked.
  • Are observant, paying close attention to children's needs before stepping in.
  • Encourage independence instead of doing tasks children can learn to do themselves.
  • Value respectful guidance over punishment or control.
  • Are dependable, punctual, flexible, and eager to learn.
  • Welcome coaching and professional feedback with a growth mindset.
  • Take pride in maintaining a clean, organized, and beautiful learning environment.
  • Understand that every responsibility (from comforting a child to preparing classroom materials) contributes to children's success.
  • Stay actively engaged with students rather than observing from the sidelines.
